On World Sandwich Day, Subway® made a significant impact by joining forces with Feeding America® and other global hunger organizations to fight hunger. With the help of customers, Subway® was able to donate 11.5 million meals to Feeding America® and a total of 13,394,149 meals globally. This achievement was made possible through the sales of subs and 30 oz. drinks, where Subway® pledged to donate the monetary equivalent of a meal for each purchase.

In 2023, global quick service restaurant brand Subway accounted for 36,592 stores worldwide. The majority of stores, approximately 20.3 thousand, were located in Subway’s home country of the United States. The brand had more restaurants across the world than any other restaurant chain in 2023.

The quick service restaurant was founded by Fred DeLuca and Peter Buck in 1965 under the name ‘Pete’s Super Submarines’. In 1966, the company was reorganized under the parent company Doctor’s Associates Inc, and subsequently renamed to ‘Pete’s Subway’, marking the beginning of the contemporary Subway brand.

In 2022, Subway became the largest quick-service restaurant in the USA with 9.18 billion of sales.
As of December 2023, subway.com generated 13.33 million global traffic while it was 16.44 million in November 2023.

How We Celebrated?

The celebration was marked by a special offer where, for every sub and 30 oz. drink purchased in the U.S., Subway® donated a meal to Feeding America®, the nation’s largest domestic hunger-relief organization. This initiative was not just limited to the U.S. but was taken global, with Subway® restaurants around the world participating in the fight against hunger in their communities. Special guests @krispyshorts, @tank.sinatra, and @girlwithnojob played a significant role in the event, spending the day at the World Sandwich Day 2017 Live Feed Headquarters.

Feeding America® and MealConnect™

Feeding America® works tirelessly to connect people with food and combat hunger across the U.S., where 41 million people, including nearly 13 million children and more than 5.7 million seniors, face hunger. Subway® supports these efforts not just on World Sandwich Day but also through MealConnect™, a platform that helps reduce food waste by connecting surplus meals with those in need in the community.

Map the Meal Gap:

Hunger is a widespread issue in the U.S., affecting every county and congressional district. Despite this, not everyone struggling with hunger qualifies for nutritional assistance. Subway® encourages exploring the data on food insecurity and staying informed about the issue.

Stay Connected:

Subway® invites customers to stay connected for deals and updates, emphasizing the importance of community involvement in the fight against hunger.
